Dr. Ric Garrison’s Journey: From Chemistry Lab to Primary Care

After earning his medical degree from Ohio State, Dr. Garrison launched his internal medicine practice in 1985. Early on, he shared office space with a dermatologist—a collaboration that proved formative. “I learned a lot from him, beyond what my training covered,” Dr. Garrison recalls. That hands-on exposure sparked a lasting interest in dermatology that would come to shape his career.
Fast forward to today, and Dr. Garrison remains at the forefront of medical innovation. He’s an early adopter of cutting-edge tools like the DermaSensor, a handheld device powered by AI that enhances how he evaluates suspicious skin lesions. “If a patient comes in with something concerning, I’ll examine it and sometimes know right away I don’t need the device,” he says. “But when I’m on the fence—that’s when it really helps.”
What sets DermaSensor apart, Dr. Garrison explains, is not just its clinical support but the reassurance it offers patients. “Many people are worried about moles or spots that look unusual. Even if I’m confident it’s benign, having that extra layer of analysis helps give them peace of mind. It’s like a second pair of eyes—objective and immediate.”
Outside of medicine, Dr. Garrison brings the same energy and curiosity to his personal life. When he’s not traveling, he dives into a wide range of hobbies: “I practice magic, play pickleball and golf, bike, go to concerts, try new restaurants—I’m a foodie—work on my stamp collection, read, and stream just about everything.”
Dr. Garrison embodies the intersection of experience, innovation, and human connection. His embrace of AI tools like DermaSensor reflects a broader philosophy: empower patients, stay ahead of the curve, and live life with intention, both in and out of the exam room.
